Heat Exchanger (with John Guest Fittings)
A Heat Exchanger is a small unit that is plumbed inline with your engine's radiator hoses and allows hot coolant circulating through your engine, heating system & radiator to come into close contact with cool water that you wish to heat up. The cool water is pumped through the Heat Exchanger via a 12V pressure pump (sold separately). Although the two never mix, the plumbing inside the heat exchanger allows heat to be transferred from the hot coolant through to the cold water, heating it up as a result.
This results in "instant" hot water, without the need for carrying separate gas bottles, or hot water heaters. It is quick, efficient, and takes up hardly any space in the engine bay.
Our Heat Exchangers are hand-made by Glind in QLD, Australia. They are built to marine grade standards and utilise brass fittings and plumbing internally, as well as utilising stainless steel bolts and fittings externally to prevent corrosion.
They are suitable for pumping both fresh and salt water.
These upgraded GLIND heat exchangers come with 1/2″ BSP DR Brass fittings on both the inlet and outlet fresh water ports to allow John Guest fittings to be screwed to. This unit is suitable for campervans, motorhomes, boating and custom fit outs.
For compatibility and ease of use, the engine coolant side is 5/8″ barb which is the most common heater hose size. This allows the heat exchanger to be placed in line or hidden so that the outlet of the fresh water delivery hose can be run straight to a shower, sink, or to an external shower connector fitting at the front or rear of a vehicle.
The Glind heat exchanger as it sits on the mount bracket, measures 335 mm long and is 105 mm high. Remember to add a little on each end to accommodate for hoses. The beauty of this heat exchanger is that it can be mounted horizontally or vertically so fitting becomes simpler. If you need a tight hose bend on the ends, use the pre-moulded heater hose.
*** NOTE: This Heat Exchanger comes with standard barb connectors for in-line connection to your vehicle's heating system via the radiator hoses and John Guest push-fit connectors for connection of the cold water source via 12mm push-fit plumbing.
See our other listing for an alternate version that has standard barb connectors for all connections. ***
